Monk.E

A French-Canadian born in Drummondville, Monk-e is a self-taught, globe-trotting visionary artist. Introduced to hip-hop culture and muralism in 1997, his primary creative mediums were later renamed “Alchimiographic Calligraffiti” and “Alchimiophonic Poetry.” Creating, exhibiting, and publishing his visual art and music around the globe has allowed him to amass a diverse encyclopedia of perspectives and techniques. For him, teaching and learning from diverse communities remain central to his mission as a producer and creator. Art is dialogue: a dialogue between the medium and the artist, between the work and the viewer, and between the viewer and their community.

Alchimiographic Calligraffiti Alchimiographic calligraffiti is a philosophy of visual art creation developed by the prolific Montreal artist David Desharnais-Yergeau, also known as Monk-e. This visionary “supragraffiti” movement combines multiple aesthetics from the past with the vibrant techniques of contemporary urban art and modern calligraphy. The spiritual approach of alchemy is used here to transmute the weak and rejected parts of our beings and societies into a highly valuable artistic expression.
