Axe Lalime

Active for 25 years in the graffiti and street art scene, Axe Lalime has gradually built a reputation of international caliber. His art aims to be accessible and populist, as can be seen in his choice of subjects: popular culture, and people of all ages and from all social classes. It is therefore only natural that this mindset inspired his “Tout en Carton” series, created using humble materials. The artist saw the potential for transformation in these materials, much like an alchemist turning lead into gold. He sculpts and modifies cardboard to create a medium that is perfectly suited to the dialogue between the concept and the choice of materials.

Just as his subject matter reflects his observation of society—and, by extension, his documentation of the human condition—Axe’s cardboard pieces are destined to change and evolve over time. It is thus by remaining true to himself and his values that the artist presents an exhibition featuring some one hundred works created from “found” cardboard, which he has painted and drawn over the past year.

For Axe Lalime, the populist and accessible aspects of his artistic practice are not limited to the conceptual and/or aesthetic levels. It is important to the artist that his works also be commercially accessible. For this reason, the sale prices for this project are kept as low as possible in order to provide an experience and ensure cultural accessibility for as many people as possible.
