MÏNS

MÏNS [she, they] is a queer artist of Haitian descent born in Montréal-Nord in 1997. An airbrush artist, muralist, and painter, she has been practicing visual arts since 2014. Immersed in the cultural richness of the Montréal neighborhoods where she grew up, she is also inspired by certain artistic movements that have shaped her generation, such as hip-hop and graffiti. MÏNS is constantly seeking to express her artistic vision from multiple perspectives while honoring her culture, history, roots, and diaspora. A rebel by nature, her art breaks down the barriers surrounding her identity as a person of African descent, as she continually questions various social issues.

In her works, MÏNS uses spray paint, airbrush, and acrylic paint, which convey an ethereal atmosphere. Never confined to a single medium, her work can be found on walls, canvases, or textiles. She illustrates contemporary, stylish, and flamboyant characters whom she portrays as sensitive beings connected to the astral plane. Sometimes channeled, sometimes alter egos. It’s about bridging the gap between the real and the spiritual. Passionate about graffiti, she also plays with the letters of her name alongside her “characters.” You can also recognize the foreheads of her characters, often featuring a symbol shaped like an “8” or other creative representations of spirituality.
