MALICIOUZ

MALICIOUZ is an artist born in Montreal of Haitian descent. Her work is rooted in the legacies of the Black diaspora. The spiritual dimension plays a central role in her work, embodied by magnified figures whom she elevates to iconic status through her art. She highlights gestures, objects, and symbols linked to her Afro-diasporic culture, bridging what is revered today with traditions that are being revitalized.

Painting on canvas has been at the heart of her artistic practice since 2011. She has presented several solo exhibitions, including Essence (2026), Black Renaissance at Afromusée (2025), and Ancrage (2024). In 2025, she participated in the Regards Croisés artist residency in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, which culminated in a group exhibition. In 2024, she exhibited the work Rage of a Pure Soul at the Musée de la civilisation as part of the exhibition Sur Parole: Le son du rap québecois. Her works are included in public collections such as Canadian Heritage, the Michaëlle Jean Foundation, and the City of Sorel-Tracy. She received the Visual Artist of the Year award at the Gala Dynastie (2019).

In 2020, she published the book MALICIOUZ: Contemporary Afro-Urban Art, a volume featuring nearly 200 photographs that chronicles ten years of her artistic practice.

She has also developed a practice in mural art, rooted in graffiti culture, which she first explored around 2006. This influence is reflected in her visual identity. She creates murals in public spaces with the intention of resonating with the vital essence of those who encounter them. In her work, she uses color symbolically, connecting it to spiritual and emotional dimensions. In 2025 and 2026, she served as artistic director and lead artist for the Galerie La 40 project, a large-scale mural exhibition under Highway 40 in Montreal.

In 2026, she redesigned the Montreal Canadiens logo as part of an official collaboration; the design was displayed on screens at the Bell Centre and featured on an official T-shirt.

Her murals can be seen in Montreal, New York, Port-au-Prince, Jacmel, Abidjan, and Douala.
